North Vietnam

The outstanding feature of the Northern Vietnam climate is that there are four distinct seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter.

Central Vietnam

The climate of Central Vietnam is divided into 2 main seasons: rainy and dry seasons.
  • Dry season: From January to August. Due to topographic characteristics, the weather at this time is particularly dry and hot with low humidity and average temperatures about 30oC-33oC. That is more unpleasant than the summer in the North.
  • Rainy season: From September to December. The rainy season comes with the rainfall accounting for 68-75% of the rainfall in the year which will cause big floods.
One thing that visitors need to note is that during the time from August to November, the Central occasionally has typhoons. So you should see the weather forecast carefully before traveling. Besides, some mountainous areas like Da Lat has a different climate, with cool weather during the whole of the year.

South Vietnam

This region has a typical monsoon tropical climate with two seasons: dry season and rainy season, but the time of each season is different from the Central. During the year, the temperature of the South is high and the climate is less volatile than other areas.
  • Dry season: From December to April. The temperature is high, about 25oC-30oC, but it does not feel as hot as the North and the Central
  • Rainy season: From May to November. Throughout much of the rainy season, rainfall is generally heavy but short-lasting. However, due to low terrain and many rivers as well as canals, heavy rain easily causes floods in many areas.
